About the Journal

Mission and Editorial Policy

The Thésis journal, published by ANPARQ – National Association of Research and Graduate Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (ISSN - 2447-8679), is a scientific journal whose primary objective is to disseminate research papers, theoretical analyses, fundamental documents and texts, as well as bibliographic reviews in the field of architecture and urbanism (A&U).

Created in 2016, its mission is to disseminate academic production, knowledge, and reflection in the field of architecture and urbanism, respecting the thematic diversity of the field, through the publication of excellent, original, and unpublished articles, as well as essays, fundamental reference texts, bibliographic reviews, and other materials of interest to the research community in the field of A&U.

Its scope is both national and international, publishing the work of researchers in the field of A&U from all regions of Brazil. It is also open to intercontinental dialogue, enabling the scientific dissemination of the field beyond the country, generating visibility and strengthening ties with entities similar to ANPARQ and with Thésis' sister publications.

Editorial Line

The Thésis Journal's main focus is the publication of scientifically relevant articles resulting from theoretical or empirical research, critical analyses, or essays, which contribute to the advancement and dissemination of new knowledge in the field of A&U. While the journal's focus is primarily on the field of A&U, it is understood that current science is interdisciplinary and, therefore, the journal may accept contributions from other related disciplinary fields in order to increase the publication's impact and its national and international circulation.

General Characteristics

The journal is published twice a year, receiving articles in a continuous flow, published in a themed issue and a free-theme issue. Since issue 18 (2024), both issues have followed a continuous publication format, where each article is published immediately after the editing stages are completed, speeding up the editorial process.

Thésis is available online through the OJS 3+ (Open Journal Systems) system at www.thesis.anparq.org.br.

Access to the journal is free, as is submission for authors interested in publishing, reinforcing Thésis' commitment to Open Science.

Section Policies

Thésis Journal has four editorial sections: Essays, Archives, Reviews, and Passages.

The [Essays] section is open to the submission of scientific texts on various topics (4 to 8 per issue) by authors interested in the A&U macro-area.

In this section, the journal welcomes articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, written by researchers with a minimum undergraduate degree, provided they are always co-authored with a doctorate. Articles written in Portuguese will be translated into English by the authors. If articles are submitted in any other language, translation into Portuguese or Spanish is optional and the authors' responsibility.

Submitted articles must certify that they were submitted exclusively to Thésis.

The [Passages] section is intended for the publication of content and formats relevant to the field of A&U related to graphic and artistic reflections.

The [Archive] section contains fundamental texts never before published in Portuguese (one per issue). This section is organized by invitation to submit to ensure temporal plurality and thematic relevance consistent with the issue in production.

The [Review] section is intended for the publication of reviews of books or theses published in the last two years.

The reviews written by invited authors will focus on theses that received the CAPES Award for theses in the field of A&U, and the ANPARQ Award for theses and authored books.

Reviews must be original and not previously published in another journal.
